Three websites worth looking at
Check out www.6seconds.org It's a website dedicated to emotional intelligence. The articles section has some interesting stuff.
www.leadershipdevelopment.com is, is its name suggests, all about leadership. You can subscribe to its free e magazine.
Lastly, www.fastcompany.com has an archive of articles, particularly about leadership. We think you'll find something useful there.
Men's and women's language: are men still top dog?
"A study of women in business organisations showed that women bosses did not dominate the interactions. Males dominated regardless of whether they were boss or subordinate." That's as reported by Janet Holmes' ( Language in the Workplace Project, Victoria University, An introduction to Sociolinguistics).
She also reports research about interruptions. In same-gender interactions, interruptions were pretty evenly between speakers. On the other hand, between men and women, almost all the interruptions were from men.
Does this happen in your workplace? We'd be keen to hear your anecdotal evidence.
