Tea and Toast
It’s the smell that gets you first – fruit toast at 7.55am. It draws you in and keeps you coming back. Tea and Toast is part of the Wellington ideas scene. Since 2003, it’s fired up your morning and freshened up your thinking.
What do you leave with? Energy fueled by a fresh injection of ideas, vitality and perspectives. It’s an hour, once every six weeks or so and it’s free.

Tea and Toast is our chance at The Training Practice to share our research and new ideas with all comers. It’s a different topic each time ranging from emotional intelligence, creative thinking, workplace wellness, leadership, engagement, public sector updates - a real smorgasbord of edgy and challenging thinking. And there’s usually a strong dash of humour as well. We may research continuously, but our feet are firmly planted in the real world of practical action.
Who comes? All sorts. The regulars, known as Toasties, are leaders and learners who become old friends.
The most popular topic over the last seven years was a detailed analysis of Obama’s presidential speeches. That was in 2009. So many people wanted to come we ended up running two sessions.

So, set your alarm clock, get on the bus and join us in 2012 for Tea and Toast. Check out this link http://www.trainingpractice.co.nz/tea-toast/ for more details. It’s always 8am – 9am at Write Ltd, Level 9, Baldwin Tower, Lambton Quay, Wellington. Then just contact us to book your place.
You’ll also find all past Tea and Toast notes on the website as well.

Trade Me
At the heart of any learning and development initiative is a great relationship with an organisation and a first-class understanding of how it works and where it’s going. That’s certainly the case with Trade Me. This company is a Kiwi icon – everyone knows Trade Me started off small, and is now a thriving business but has held on to a unique culture and set of values.
We’ve worked with the Trade Me team to think through the way they interact with customers in writing and on the phone. Then, we delivered customer service programmes in line with their values and brand. We’ve also taken the next step and worked with their managers on our ‘Kick Start to becoming a manager’ programme. It’s hit the spot and given them practical tools so they can manage themselves, their people and plan ahead.

Ministry for the Environment
The Ministry, and the State sector, has changed considerably over the past two years and we’ve been on that journey with them. We’ve delivered our Machinery of Government and other government-related programmes since 2005. We update our material every time we deliver the programme to make sure Ministry staff know what’s happening in the State sector, the environment sector and where they fit in.
And we always enjoy ourselves. Some people come along to a programme called – Machinery of Government – expecting to be bored. You must be joking. We bring the whole subject to life with case studies, real examples, stories and interactive exercises.
