Managing Difficult Behaviour

How can you categorise different kinds of difficult behaviour? What may be driving people's behaviour? What strategies can you adopt to manage difficult behaviour? Show ponies, passive-aggressives, 'bombs' and the disengaged are just some types of difficult behaviour you may encounter. People are complex and far from one-dimensional. So, it's important to think through their needs and motivations, and then think through your reactions and emotions as well. Then, you can work out your best strategy for managing difficult behaviour and move forward.

At the end you will:

  • recognise different types of difficult behaviour
  • be able to recognise bullying and harassment
  • understand how you interpret and perceive difficult behaviour
  • manage conflict that arises from difficult behaviour
  • recognise the 'games' often associated with difficult behaviour
  • be able to hold conversations about difficult behaviour
  • use practical ways to manage difficult behaviour.

Why is this important?

We often hope people will think and act like us. But they don't. We all encounter difficult behaviour, so it's important to reflect and then take action to manage and resolve difficult behaviour issues.
